How do I safely transition my dog from dry kibble to a raw food diet?

The most successful way to transition is with a slow, gradual approach over 7 to 10 days. This gives your dog’s digestive tract time to adjust to processing fresh, raw proteins.

  • Days 1–3: Feed 75% of their normal kibble and 25% raw food (kept in separate meals).
  • Days 4–6: Move to a 50/50 split.
  • Days 7–9: Feed 25% kibble and 75% raw.
  • Day 10+: 100% raw!

Start with a single, easily digestible protein like turkey or chicken before introducing richer red meats like beef or pork. If your dog has a sensitive stomach, a "cold turkey" fast for 12–24 hours before introducing raw can also help.

*If your dog has specific medical conditions or dietary sensitivities, we always recommend consulting with your veterinarian before making major dietary changes.*

How do you figure out your dog's mixed feeding portions?

As a guideline calculate 50% of your dog's daily requirement for each food type. Since our raw food comes in convenient 1 lb portions, you can easily work in clean half-pound or full-pound increments:

Kibble: Cut your bag's recommended daily cup amount exactly in half.

Raw: Calculate your dog's daily raw weight (typically 2% to 3% of their ideal body weight) and cut it in half.

Watch the dog, not the calculator!
Guidelines are just a starting blueprint. Every dog's metabolism and activity level is unique. Keep a close eye on your dog's body condition, if they look a bit too heavy, scale back the portions. If they look too lean, bump them up. Adjust as needed to find their perfect baseline.

How do I store and safely handle the raw dog food?

Handling raw pet food is just like handling raw meat for your human family!

  • Storage: Keep the food frozen until you are ready to use it. Thaw containers in the refrigerator 24 hours before feeding. Once thawed, raw food stays fresh in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Hygiene: Wash your hands, utensils, and your dog's stainless steel or ceramic bowl thoroughly with hot, soapy water after every feeding.
  • Prep Tip: Never microwave raw food to thaw it, as this can cook the meat and alter the vital nutrients.

How much raw food should I be feeding my dog daily?

As a general rule of thumb, an adult dog should eat roughly 2% to 3% of their ideal adult body weight per day in raw food. For example, a 50 lb dog would need about 1 to 1.5 lbs of food daily.

This can change depending on your dog's age, metabolism, and activity level (highly active sport dogs might need up to 4%, while couch potatoes might need closer to 2%). We love helping you find the perfect balance, reach out with your dog's weight and activity level, and we can help you calculate their exact daily portion!
